Wondering how to find content ideas for your blogs every month? If you don’t have a copywriter on hand, coming up with new content ideas can be a chore. Like most people, you probably dread having to think up new ideas to write about your business. Fear not! We have written a series of simple tips that will get you started in no time.
Most people know they must update their website content frequently to help with SEO and prevent their website from dropping off the first page of Google. Interesting blogs can also attract potential customers to your website and encourage them to look at your services and products.
In our first blog in this series we discussed how you could find content ideas for your blogs by talking to your employees. This time we’ll look at discussion topics from within your industry.
Blog content inspiration: Your industry
Are big changes happening in your industry? Think about whether you could comment on something topical. Even if something negative has been in the news about your industry, you could write a piece about how your company avoids these failings and suggest how others could adopt your code of practice. If you share your blog on social media it may be picked up by local newspaper journalists who are often looking for topical comment.
Another route is to offer expert advice about your own industry, services and products. People may come to read your tips and then stay to buy your services.
Blog content research: where to start
To do this well, you need to keep up with industry news in trade magazines, the national press and by subscribing to other industry newsletters or blogs. Consider what topics you could comment on and then write a response from your company’s perspective – as if you were being interviewed by a journalist.
When telemarketing was in the news, because some unscrupulous companies were giving honest marketing agencies a bad name, Spirus wrote a response. As well as putting it on our website, we also sent it out to local media. It resulted in newspaper and radio interviews.
Think about the kind of positive publicity your business could gain if you were seen as an industry expert. Be quick off the mark – for this strategy to work you have to be the first to have their say. Publish your blog ASAP, Tweet about it using the link to your blog and have your local journalists on speed dial.
