I’m Tom, Spirus’s latest recruit! First of all, the background stuff… I was born in Ipswich and grew up in a small village around 8 miles west of the town with my younger sister. At university, I studied BA (Hons) Sport Journalism where I learnt the skills of reporting, feature writing, PR and multimedia, while undertaking work experience at The Cambs Times/Wisbech Standard, Bury Free Press and BBC Radio Suffolk. After university, I gained PR experience working as a freelance for a London-based consumer PR, digital and events company, then did some work in teaching.
At Spirus, I hope to bring my enthusiasm, creativity and communication skills to the table.
This summer has been a very exciting one for me, not only because I started a new job at Spirus, but also because I got married to Rachel, who I met whilst at university. Together, we live in the brilliant town of Bury St Edmunds with our two mischievous cats, Chester and Poppy (aka Noodle).
My burning desire is a really simple one: to be happy and successful. Oh, and I’d rather like to have one of my children’s books published too! Creative writing is one of my main hobbies, while I also dabble reasonably sporadically in sports and music. I play both the drums and ukulele, and I have a decent right foot for football!
And, by the way, I’ve now discovered Twitter, so please feel free to connect with me @tom_tawell.
