Our Back to the Future II inspired look at Twitter
With today being ‘Back to the Future Day,’ it inspired us to take a look at some old blog posts from the past to compare them to the present day (Tom even wore a t-shirt for the occasion). One in particular stood out…
Back then, it was a bit like Marty McFly’s self-lacing Nike shoes, or throwing rubbish into the DeLorean’s Mr Fusion energy converter to provide it with power; it seemed both simple and useful (140 characters to send a succinct message to a potentially huge audience), an obvious progression from SMS texting, but there was some mystery behind how exactly it worked.
Whereas the two items from Back to the Future II haven’t come to fruition just yet – although there have been moves towards powering vehicles with waste – it seems Twitter has really taken off, like the flying cars shown in the film. It’s now a firm feature of our lives and an essential part of the marketing mix that allows you to achieve maximum exposure for your company, while also allowing you to build positive relationships with both existing and potential clients – a must have.
A famous quote from Back to the Future II is: “Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads,” spoken by the Doc. Applied to Twitter – something we see as having a strong place in PR and marketing for years to come – we’d say, “Twitter? Where we’re going, we certainly need Twitter.”
