Nanna Mexico is an independent Mexican restaurant just outside the main shopping area of Cambridge. Hear how we helped promote them to the football community:
As a recently established independent restaurant, Nanna Mexico has a limited marketing budget. We work with them on a regular basis on a number of initiatives. In this particular year we chose 2 groups to focus our marketing on; the transient university population (C20,000 per year) and attendees at Cambridge United Football Club (C3000 per fortnight).
The promotion we started was the first of its type at any football club in the country.
At every home game there is a featured player in the programme. If that player scores a goal the fans can take their programme into Nanna Mexico and receive a free signature dish – a big ass burrito.
Nanna Mexico have a full page advert in the programme, a feature on the Cambridge United website before each game, a PA announcement before and during the game and a reminder by PA and on the website should the featured player score.
In the first half of the season there were 3 games where the featured player scored. The restaurant had a noticeable increase in visitors from supporters, football message boards have talked about the promotion and chants have been heard on the terraces calling for free burritos.
