A Week of Growth and Decision-Making: My Work Experience at Spirus Marketing Ltd.

Hi! I’m Isabel and I would like to share the exciting highlights of my work experience week at Spirus Marketing Ltd. Join me as I navigate the world of marketing, event planning, and decision-making. From selecting the perfect venue for a business dinner to exploring creative solutions, each day brought new challenges and valuable insights. With the guidance of my mentor (mum!) and the support of the team, I had the opportunity to develop my organisational skills and witness the practical application of AI in the workplace.

Monday

At the start of the week, I focused on preparing and organising myself for the upcoming work week at Spirus Marketing. I learned about the tools and software that they use at Spirus Marketing and how the core virtual team communicate on a daily basis.

One of our main tasks was to find a suitable venue for a business dinner relaunch. To make the decision-making process more efficient, we used chatGPT to formulate ten essential questions that we could ask the venue organisers. This experience was fascinating as it provided me with insights into how AI can be utilised as a valuable tool. To help me in this, I completed a course on how to use chatGPT in the workplace on the Wisdom Seekers Society website.  After careful editing and refining, we finalised the ten questions. Additionally, I created a spreadsheet to conveniently track and compare the responses to these questions on a scale of one to five. This spreadsheet proved to be an effective tool in assessing the suitability of each venue for the dinner.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, we visited two of the four potential venues shortlisted for the dinner. I diligently filled out the question sheets and used the gathered information to assign scores ranging from one to five for each question. These scores were then entered into the spreadsheet, allowing us to calculate a total score out of 50 for each venue. This process provided us with valuable insights into the venues and their management. Once we visited all the venues, we could refer to our questions and spreadsheet to make an informed decision.

Wednesday

Day three began with a review of the information I collected during our visits on Tuesday. I started evaluating the suitability of the venues based on this data. Additionally, we reached out to two other venues and scheduled visits for the following day. Towards the end of the day, we focused on promoting a company that sells cards capable of growing wildflowers when planted. To promote this unique product, I proposed creating a TikTok video, considering its engaging nature.

Thursday

To kick off Thursday, I participated in a weekly meet-up organised by Drive the Network. This meeting was a great opportunity to connect with new and welcoming individuals who shared similar professional interests. I felt at ease and confident while talking to the group, understanding their discussions and contributing my ideas; they kindly tailored their conversation to compliment my work experience week (the topic for discussion was ‘what would you tell your younger self?’).

We continued our venue visits, exploring two more options and taking detailed notes during our tours. Upon returning, I updated the spreadsheet with the newly obtained information. Additionally, I initiated a discussion on how we could remain flexible with prices while still securing a luxurious venue. One suggestion I made was conducting a survey to previous attendees of dinners to determine what they liked most about the dinners and to rank the importance of different aspects.

Friday

On Friday, I wrote this blog, reflecting on my work experience at Spirus Marketing Ltd. Content creation is also one of the services that Spirus offers and this was my chance to provide some content for Spirus. I also reviewed the spreadsheet and received menu and venue pricing information, which I promptly added to the price section of the spreadsheet.

In summary

My week at Spirus was highly rewarding and enjoyable as it provided lots of opportunities to enhance my organisational skills, social confidence, and critical thinking abilities. I would like to thank my mum, Tania Verdonk, the Spirus team and everyone else who contributed to making this work experience so fulfilling.
