May day! May day! – Work experience
My day starts
At 9:00 am my mum and I had a talk about what we are going to do today and what she does all day. One of the main things I learnt was AIDA, which is a commonly used marketing acronym, It stands for Awareness, Interest, Desire and Action. These are the steps that people go through when buying a product or service. I also learnt about target audience. Your target audience are the people who you think will buy your product or service. Therefore you need to market your business where they are most likely to see it. For example, Instagram, Snapchat or Youtube for a younger audience who may be interested in kayaking *cough cough and Facebook or newspaper for an older audience.
A special meeting
In the afternoon at 12:00 we started to drive over to a meeting in Mildenhall, luckily for me, I have a great Mum who specially organised the meeting with a flight simulator centre called Sim2Do.
The owner, Kenneth Mockford, was also a fellow South African (like mum!) and my mum, who runs the South African Chamber of Commerce in the East Of England, wanted to see the venue for possibly hosting networking meetings.
Much to my surprise, Kenneth very kindly decided to give me the amazing opportunity to fly in one of his simulators called Toby. He also told me a very heartfelt story about why he has given two of his planes names, Toby and Domo 2121. On our way home I tweeted Jeremy Sallis at BBC radio Cambridgeshire about my day and he played the song I requested for my Mum.
So thank you very much to Spirus Marketing for the great day and arranging a special meeting for me. I don’t think I have a career in marketing but I can now appreciate why you do what you do and how it helps other companies. For me, I need to work in maths and physics as my head is still in the clouds.
