We have to admit a few champagne corks have popped at Spirus HQ after successfully completing the management and communication of the Police and Crime Commissioner Election for Cambridgeshire and Peterbrorough.
And we’re delighted that our efforts helped the turn out for the election to double in comparison with the last election in 2012.
Our colleagues, Tom and Jo, were on the ground on the day of the election helping journalists get the results as quickly as possible and giving them all the background information they needed to carry out their reports.
And they both toured 10 polling stations across Cambridgeshire on election day, posting photos on Twitter, to boost awareness of the election so that people would be encouraged to vote.
But work has been going on behind the scenes at Sprius since March to ensure that this election went without a hitch.
Tom said: “It’s a wonderful feeling when you know that months of hard work have paid off. Doubling the voter turnout for the PCC Election compared with 2012 is a great result. We have been working hard on this election behind the scenes for a long time now, with so many different things that needed to be organised.”
Running all aspects of the PR, communications, marketing and staging of the Election has been a mammoth task.
We were involved in everything from compiling and issuing press packs to the media and communication guides to our fellow local authority communication teams, to informing the public of the event and ensuring that communications ran smoothly between all six councils involved across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
The live results were relayed on the day thanks to a graphic we designed to be displayed across all six verification/count locations as the election progressed through its different stages until the declaration was made.
We even created a ‘Twibbon’ that people could add to their social media profile pictures to say they were going to vote in the Election. Plus, we took over @pcccambs (the official Twitter account for the Police and Crime Commissioner), which we ran simultaneously with the @eastcambs Twitter account.
Tom said: “We wanted to help engage the public with the Election, letting them know where and when they could vote and directed them to www.choosemypcc.org.uk for information about candidates.
We had compliments from the BBC (TV and radio), the Electoral Commission and from Debbie Clark MP about the way we handled the event. We even entertained London Borough of Bexley Labour Councillor, Danny Hackett, who messaged us to say our tweets were great, so roll on the European Union (EU) Referendum on the 23rd June!
While the country’s determining whether or not to vote to stay in the EU, if you need a team that you can “count” on for all your marketing needs, from press releases and social media campaigns, to telemarketing and events management, then give us a call on 01638 741830 or email hello@spirusmarketing.com.
