HOW DO YOU WRITE A GOOD TITLE FOR SEO?

Writing a title tag is trickier than you think...

Get your title tag right

Writing a title for search engines depends on your objectives of your business, what the search plan is and what action you want from a visitor to your site. A lot of that will be defined already and other guides on our website run through this. So we’ll assume you know all that in the rest of this guide.

A good meta title and heading will have 3  components:

  1. A Call to action, these are a great way to gain a click through, that’s a phrase that gives a reason as to why you should click, example “click today for the best prices” or “find your best price now”
  2. Your keywords, so search engines and visitors know what you are promoting
  3. Your company name

Your meta title needs to inform search engines of your intended keywords and look enticing on search engines. Without the enticement your meta tile will just be full of keywords and a little boring on rankings, it won’t explain who you are either.

Here at Spirus we utilise this 3 prong attack of “keyword | enticement | company name”, for example:

  • Plumber in Cambridge | Call ABC plumbing today for a great quote
  • Neff single and double ovens | at the most competitive prices from ABC appliances
  • Fender Telecaster Deluxe | see the full range at ABC music shop

Notice in both of those example we have included:

  • Name of the company
  • 1 or 2 keywords
  • Call to action

Where does a title belong?

You have many title on a website, they are defined as:

  1. Meta title
  2. Headings

Your meta title belongs here:

Your headings show on your web page:

Headings appear on your page as H1, H2 etc to H6. Your H1 tag is very important and it’s advisable to write it in a way that includes your keywords naturally. Search engines are becoming more intelligent with the use of artificial intelligence and tend to know how a human writes, meaning you can’t cram keywords in anymore! It needs to feel natural as though a human has written.
